Special-purpose equipment: Odin, Thor and Innovation

HOCHTIEF Solutions operates its own special-purpose equipment for the offshore business, employing its own crew for the purpose. This includes jack-up platform "Odin," in service since 2004. The 40 by 70 meter platform "Thor" is one of the largest jack-up platforms for the installation of wind power plants at sea. As if that weren't enough: It is also a high-performance device for additional major projects offshore, such as pile foundations for large bridges.

On its launch, the "Innovation" will be the most powerful crane jack-up vessel in the offshore market today. The new special-purpose vessel is 147 meters long, has a beam of 42 meters, and can operate at depths of up to 50 meters. With an 8,000-metric-ton payload and 1,500-metric-ton crane lift capacity, the vessel is ideally suited for installing all types of offshore foundations – and the only one of its kind anywhere in the world. HOCHTIEF not only developed the idea and the innovative design for the "Innovation" itself in conjunction with joint venture partner GeoSea, but will also operate the vessel and charter it out.

As demand for special-purpose equipment exceeds current supply, construction of further jack-up vessels is planned. Among other projects, HOCHTIEF Solutions will construct a special-purpose vessel for commissioning, inspecting, and maintaining wind turbines. Thanks to a diving robot and a sonar for underwater documentation, our working ship is also suitable for exploration operations.
